I was craving bicycling in the mountains recently, so I decided to drive to The Black Hills in South Dakota.   I had modest expectations; they were greatly surpassed.

The drive is pretty BLEEP-hum, but the destination was great.  I stayed in Custer for a couple days and did some great rides-- lots of bison, beautiful rock formations, etc.

I also spent some time in Spearfish Canyon.  Nice place.  And, of course, I bicycled up to Mt. Rushmore.  Very impressive.

Have you ever been to the Black Hills?

No I never have. My mother was there. My mom went to travel the rocky mountians. She went to North Dakota and checked all that out. She has many photos. I sure wish I was with her. I want to go some day.

That's awesome Brad! I love bike riding out just to get away, but the stuff around here's kind of . . . boring. (Corn. Corn. Corn. House. Roadkill. Corn. Corn.) That must have been amazing, seeing all that scenery!

I did the same trip except my bike had a twin cam and could go 90 MPH. And the week I went there were a couple hundred thousand bikes that were a little quicker that yours. But I have always said its beautiful to see no matter what kind of bike you ride.

wow, that brings back some memories for me. until about a month ago my family owned a farm in S.Dak. that was the homestead of my Great Grandparents.
As a child we went there often. I think Mount Rushmore is a MUST SEE for everyone. Just the sheer size is incredible not to mention the detail, and you can see it for miles and miles. Custer state park was huge and gorgeous...so many wild animals within reach. And the Black Hills, hard to describe but amazing...like being on another planet almost. Oh, andFox6Fan...they're called the Black Hills because they're black. Kind of makes me wish I had gone back before we sold the place! Thanks for nudging the memory banks Brad !!

I haven't been to the black hills, however I been hiking in AZ. (bring lots of water) There are several beautiful reserves near Masa AZ. there are bike trails and also light hiking trails. It's amazed me that a roadrunner, even though he was hiding wouldn't shut up.The animals blend in well, expecially the lizards.

Brad,
I have a quick unrelated request, could you speak with someone about adding a philosophy category to the blog page.

FOX 6 Anchor/Reporter: Thanks for visiting my bio page. You must be a curious person, so we already have something in common. Mix your curiosity with a passion for detail, a love for people, and a hunger for adrenaline, and you have the recipe for a news person! I grew up (although some people would disagree with that) in Palo Alto, California. While pursuing my Ph.D. in Geography at Texas A&M, I decided to explore the wild and wacky world of television news. I was hooked. My journey has taken me to the South (Atlanta), the Northeast (Lancaster/Harrisburg PA), the West (the San Francisco Bay Area), and now the Midwest. Over the years, I have been fortunate to have my work earn national awards from NBC News, the U.S. Coast Guard, and The National Water Safety Congress, as well as multiple Emmy Awards, and awards from the Associated Press. While I was working in Pennsylvania, the 6pm newscast I anchored became the highest rated top-50 market evening newscast in the country. The biggest honor, however, is knowing that you are watching. I take very seriously the responsibility we have to bring you accurate and up-to-the-minute information. Covering the news for you is not just a job; it's a privilege. Now some trivial tidbits you would never know about me if I didn't tell you: *I was once attacked by wild dogs in India and underwent rabies treatment. *As a graduate student, I published an academic paper that provided the first evidence Native Americans domesticated the California Fan Palm (Washingtonia Filifera). *My Grandfather, Robert T. Frederick, was the youngest and most wounded General in WWII. He created a unit called the First Special Service Force, a precursor to today's Special Forces. Winston Churchill called him "the greatest fighting General of all time", and actor William Holden portrayed him in the movie "The Devil's Brigade". *I feel deeply fortunate to live in this great country, and I am quietly indebted to every war vet who has risked his or her life for the freedoms we all enjoy. Be sure to check out my video bio and my blog, and if you're still curious, or you have a story you would like me explore, please give me a buzz at the TV station. I will take your call, because I'm curious too!
