Someone has to be accountable for the high price of gasoline.  In 1995 President Clinton vetoed a bill against drilling in Anwar.  The price of gas at that time was $19.00 a barrel.  If he had not vetoed that bill, Anwar  would be producing 1 million barrels a day.  That would have put us closer to being energy independant!  We also have the speculators driving up the price of a barrel of oil.  The speculators are driving up the price so they can sell high.  Once the speculators sell high, the price of a gallon of gasoline will drop.  Once again money changing hands on people who do not need it and the little guy getting screwed again.  Whichever candidate fixes the high price of gas is going to win over the american people!!!  Good luck to both of them becuase this is a big issue for me and I am sure a lot of you out there!!!

Barney,

Carl Levin gave a speech on May 12 addressing just how to fix it. What laws have to be changed to make it work. The whole thing is in his speech, and sadly he explains why it can't be fixed under George Bush. It is a long read but you will find a copy on Carl's site.

My husband has sent him copies of his chase account and the screw job they did on him. I am not a democrate, I am more republican; but I loke Carl Levin becuase I think he is one of the honest ones.

I wont be critical of Carl levin , but what is always left out on both sides is that "the little fine print".

The deal is 90% of americans dont understand oil (a commodity) or how its sold on the global market . How,also, other influences that goes way beyound "supply and damand" determine the cost.

Most americans dont realize that microsoft ,mcdonalds and coke have made more in total profit than Big oil, overall.

Most americans dont realize that china and Idia will continue to run up oil prices and will even filled the void if we consume less ,maitinging the increase in cost. that's the reality people. The world has caught up and are surpassing us.

Most Americans dont realize that world governments (like saudi arabia) already control big Oil tru their own regulations in big ways. Our own government already get tax money from big oil even after offering tax breaks. Have any of you eve asked congess what are they doing with those funds???? Are they wasting it in porjects like " the road to no where"?

I am not saying Levin may not have some points ,but the better road would be to undersatnd this commodiity for one's self. That way, you wil understand why Oil prices are so high.

The clear soultion is to drill here or swith to a technogly that offer lower cost.

Just remember , after the dot. com bust, 911 and many Arilines going under, where individuals lost tons of money in their 401 ks, Big oil has been one main area that has helped to rebond YOUR 401k , if not even made it more profitable.

House Democrats: 96% Opposed

SUMMARY

91% of House Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas.

86% of House Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas.

The Dems own this mess. They wanted high energy prices and now they have them. Obama was asked today if $4 gas wasn't a good thing for the environment. He didn't say "No". He just said he wished the increase had been slower....

Levin who?

Levin is full of crap, and his solutions are completely biased and have no credibility. Much like anything else that bum does.

"We need to ensure that we support policies that will decrease our dependence on foreign oil, reduce climate change emissions, and protect our national energy security but at the same time promote renewable energy sources, environmentally responsible domestic production, and tax incentives for energy efficiency and advanced automobile technology."
---Carl Levin, a man who votes lock-step democrat.
Increasing taxes to oil companies will only increase the price of gas. Corporations do not pay taxes, the consumer does through rising prices, econ 101.

This much is known for FACT, when the GOP came to power, we had cheap energy cost, money in the bank, people were NOT looseing their homes, millions of JOB's have been shipped over seas for Bush's foriegn Family's. I am not a Dem by any means, I actually have leaned to the GOP in the past on many things. But thanks to Bush and the total mess he has made out of this counrty over the last 8 yrs, its time for a change. The GOP has NO CLUE as to what to do. This Oil con job is criminal

While I totally agree with RLTW regarding taxing the oil companies, it is a no win situation and with all the profit that they make they will just get upset and increase the price per gallon to offset the new tax. Oldgrizz, Nafta, which was passed by Clinton has made a complete mess of things and like I've said had Clinton signed the Bill to start drilling in Anwar we would be producing a million barrels of oil A DAY and would be less dependant on foreign oil.

The Democratic Congress just rejected Bush's request to lift the ban on oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Pelosi says it's "another page from (an)... energy policy that was literally written by the oil industry — give away more public resources." That sounds great but what other plan does she have to fuel America before it collapses. Being the Socialist Marxist that she is that would probably make her happy. She could make a "Brave New World", she must have missed the history lessons of the past.

Drill now and pay less later, while we work on new energy which will be more efficient. High gas prices can be directly blamed on the Dems and the Environmentalists making a huge amount of money from green policy making.

Regarding the oil mess, the answer's not to increase drilling here in usa, it's open more refineries. You can drill all you want and have a huge surplus of oil but if there's not enough refineries, you've created a false shortage of oil supply to meet demand. This is exactly what bushy's energy policy writers and energy lobbists wanted from day one and got. That's what wacko mccain wants to continue. The oil companies continue to refuse to open new refineries. By the way, to get to the domestic oil you nuts are talking about, it will cost substantially more to reap from where it's located here than the easy access the goofrabs have in the middle east. Thus wiping out any potential cost savings. Gas will be just as high. And just set the history record straight, Bill Clinton in the 90's flooded the market with oil from our reserve stock, when big oil started raising the price then. Guess what, the price came back down and stayed down til bushy got in office.

I was a lifelong long democrat until this election season began. I will now be voting republican for the first time in my life. the democrats will not lift a ban on oil exploration off our own shores and they cannot even get an election right. Hillary won more votes than any presidential candidate in primary history. She beat Obama in the number of votes earned but still the loser BLACK OSAMA gets the nomination. I will never again vote for a party who does not give the win to the person who earns the least votes. Gore won more votes than Bush yet the dumbocrats lost that one. I will now begin siding with the winners who seem to know how to get things done. GOD BLESS AMERICA. I will never vote for a Black Communist to run this country

I've got a sneaky suspicion that 1] You were never a Democrat 2] You wouldn't vote for a female 3] That if you check your blood line, it's not of the pure white Anglo pedigree you think it is. You are the typical Right Wing Republican Communist Christian Hypocrit. Your kind give the bad name to the Republican party. I'm just curious to see if anyone else here will speak out against you since you can't stay on topic here. Doubt it. How can you use GOD and be prejudice in the same statement. Typical.. You must have been struck dumb by a thunder clap!!!

Bill Clinton did flood the market with oil from our strategic supplies, but the price of oil did not go down. The reason he did it is so no one would notice the oil from the Alaskan pipeline that he agreed to ship to Japan. Approximately 45% of our Alaskan oil is still shipped to Japan at a reduced price thanks to Carl Levin, Nancy and the rest of the democrats.

Levin is an idiot, and so are the people who vote for him. Yes, they are mentally retarded. They should ride around in the tart cart. They have special needs, and always have to be pacified, or they cry like babies. WAHWAHWAH.

Gas prices are high because stupid people put stupid people in office election after election. Gas prices are high because of illegal speculation. Gas prices are high because George Bush's blind trust is full of oil, and he 's in bed with the Saudi's. If I had that much money, I know would care less about the price of a gallon of gas.

Maybe so many Americans are angry about high gas because they suck at managing their own money? Not maybe, but definitely. Americans taken in by easy mortgages, no payments til 2009 and wild living. Suck it up America, it's not just the politicians, big oil and speculators that created this mess, your patheticism it the main reason, to quit pointing the finger at everyone else, and point it at yourself, because you are to blame for your apathy, you complacency and your stupidity.

Wow sipedo what a crock of crap your spewing. My husband and I have worked very hard for our money and have one of those crappy arm mortgages becuase it's the only choice that we had at the time.

I certainly don't go out to the movies or to dinner anymore, and I eat bologna or tuna so that I can get diapers and food for my child. I by no means complain about it at all, I am happy to give up certain things and sacrafice whatever I have to to give my son what he needs in life.

You know people may have not been so smart with their money when times were good and I am one of them but I certainly haven't caused gas prices to go up and I will tell you right now, when we get on our feet I will never be caught with my pants down again.

Judge lest ye be judge.....Last time I checked you weren't GOD!
