Okay that "Talking White" remark made headlines and that hurts, if well spoken people have to be ridiculed, or heckled for getting an education and putting it to good use, does anyone feel that our youth could be discouraged by foolish comments like that and the school system has been letting the children down as it is, teachers go on strike just before school starts every year, what are we really instilling in our youth, some youths read the news paper some watch the news some have input to, not all youths want to speak ebonics and what clown gave broken english a name?

I won't delete your comment, I never heard that word before, I laughed at first and then I asked my friend what it meant and he told me that it was made up by a black person refering to it as ghetto slang, hell I feel bad I'm of color and my friend is caucasion. My previous boyfriends were of color and my husband is Asian they never spoke in broken english and my husband is from a very poor community. Why do we label one another with foolishness? Does ghetto slang descirbe poor communities in general, or just people of color? Because I really want to know, my parents never taught my family about different color of skin, regardless what the t.v or newspapers showed We all bleed the same color and we are put together the same way inside.

The entire statement by Nader was foolish. Speaking proper english has nothing to do with race. Remember William F. Buckley? He was white as I am but I sure as hell don't speak like he did. I'm well educated except I am missing he bloom handle up my tail.

Disclamer: Never take my word on any facts stated in any of my posts. Do your own research. Opinions stated are my own.

Let me preface this post by saying that I briefly looked into Nader's comments and I am not a Ralph Nader fan by any means. That said, I have to give Mr.Nader the benefit of the doubt on this comment. Here's a quote:

Ralph Nader: "What's keeping him from doing that (speaking to urban problems)? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We'll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards."

In context, I believe he meant not the actual manner of speech, but the audience Senator Obama typically directs his remarks to. It seems to me by saying (although it's poorly worded) that Senator Obama "talks white" what he means is that he wants his words to resonate much more with the white populace than minority sectors. You would agree there is a much greater political advantage in terms of votes if he focuses his remarks on issues that resonate more with white America. I'm not agreeing with Mr.Nader's logic, I'm just pointing out that, to me, that's what he was trying to say.

He goes on to say that Senator Obama "doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson." Mr. Jackson is a fine orator and I wouldn't consider it an insult to be compared to him in speech. But we can probably all agree that most of his political speech revolves around minority issues. So this is more proof that what Mr.Nader was contending was that Senator Obama is directing his political speech more towa

Continued from above:

So this is more proof that what Mr.Nader was contending was that Senator Obama is directing his political speech more toward the white voter, or in his lousy choice of words, "talking white."

If Obama is directing his voice towards a group of people that can push him forward to get him where he needs to go in order to correct the real problems of this Country, why not? and in all honesty what political figure ever set the rich aside and got in office to better the urban community? They all play on us and lie to us all to get where they need to get bottom line. And Jesse has his on VOCABULARY!!!!!

I agree with you that politically it would probably be a good strategy for increasing his vote count. But if this idea took hold (something I'm sure that Ralph Nader hopes it does), then surely there would be political backlash among minority voters. Everyone likes to think that their candidate has their best interests in mind. Just in the way that Bush pandered to the evangelical voters who helped him in the last two elections, Mr. Nader is suggesting that Senator Obama may be doing the same to non-minority voters. If he can get this idea to resonate with minorities, he could potentially peel votes away from Senator Obama.

Good one, it's like this Presidential seat is the Dr.Jekyl and Mr. Hyde-- He became a Doctor to heal people and he tried it on himself first and failed and became the mad scientist all for a good cause. Only we the people suffer first hand not the WASHINGTON SEAT HOLDERS.

Alexxi,
Then why are you picking on Nader for pointing out the obvious?

Buy the way, I heard a rumor that Nader was going to pick Al Gore as his running mate. ROFLMFAO!
I'd be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to once again thank Mr. Nader for his efforts in 2000, to keep an American in our White House. And oh yes, the good people of Tennessee also. Well done.
